Passing Through

This film was extremely thought provoking and allowed the point of view of the author to spin a web of uncertainty and emotion concerning his heritage and lost/misplaced original family. Through reflexivity, the creator reflects on Koreans within his portrayal of Korea and every other Asian he meets thus removing himself from the situation in a feeling of disconnect which is adamantly shown throughout the film.
The editing, music and scenes portrayed throughout the film allowed the audience a look at the power of indecision and confusion that comes with an identity that split between old and new cultures.
As an American I see the author in a great spot for opportunity to find himself and his purpose in life by finding his family and perhaps understanding his own personal history. Although through his commentary, his trip to Korea did not connect him as he thought it would I can see from my perspective that that journey was important in his overall search of self-discovery.
